Basically, Adam and I were married on January 6, 2007. We were high school sweethearts. Early that summer, we found out we were pregnant with Aryn! You can read all about that experience at my other blog. After Aryn passed away, I learned my mother was not going to win her battle with lung cancer. I'll treat you to that story later.
Now, on to my family.
My house is full of pets. I think this happened because when I got married I went from my parents house, which was filled with people and pets, to a house with just me and Adam. In total, I have 2 dogs, 2 cats and a gold fish.
Princess is my first cat. Adam calls her Princess Pretty Pants. She is a 4 pound black cat. She is about 8 years old. We got her when my dad brought home a stray cat who happened to be pregnant! I kept Princess when I was still living with my parents. They also kept Butch, who is Princess's 20 pound brother! When Adam and I moved in together, I brought her with me. If you ever come over to my house, you'll probably never see Princess. She stays upstairs the entire time. She meows and it sounds like she is saying, "ow". She likes to bug me and Adam while we're sleeping by putting her paw and head on our faces.
After having Princess for a few months after being married, I decided to get her a friend. I searched for a kitten on Craig's List and found a 7 week old kitten. I fell in love with him right away. His name is Killer. Adam calls him Killer the Babies. (Notice Adam gives pets last names). His name is Killer for a reason. He's got such a personality! He loved attacking everything in sight. That includes Princess. He think's he's a black and white lion. Recently, we've been letting Killer go outside and that has tamed him a bit. Actually, as I write this, he is just purring away right next to me on the couch. Killer loves to nurse on clothes. When you stop him half way, he will stick his tongue out.
About a year later, I had a need to really take care of something. Cats are very self sufficient, and I needed more. Adam went on to Craig's List again and found a 10 week old puppy. By the end of the week, we gave a home to Sandi. I know what you are wondering, what did Adam choose for a last name? Actually, I chose it. I thought she looked Irish. Don't ask why. Anyway, so she became Sandi McPhee. She is a mix of a pit bull and queensland red heeler. She loves to swim and is sooo active. She needs to be constantly paid attention to. If you don't, she'll let you know. She will whine and bark until you give her attention.
Well, then I decided that Sandi needed a friend. Adam and I made a trip to the Maricopa Animal Shelter and fell in love with a black and white border collie/austrailian kelpie mix. We called her Pepper. And Adam came up with Pepper Sauce. (So if you find a Tabasco collar, let me know!) Pepper is more energetic than Sandi! She's too smart for her own good, which gets her into trouble. She digs, chews and digs some more. She is very responsive to verbal commands though, which makes training easy.
Lastly, in October 2008, I went to the Arizona State Fair. I wanted Adam to win me a goldfish. He said that it would be cheaper to go to the pet store and buy a goldfish. But its just not the same. So he won Cat Food. Yeah, that's the name of the fish. But the cats just don't seem to care about him. I'm suprised that he's lasted this long. So we got him 2 guppie friends. One died a week after we got them and the goldfish ate it. I know it, because I watched it. Then the other one died a week after that.
So pretty much that's our house. Its like having kids. I have the super excited kids that never settle down and the kids that just want to be let be.
So Valentine's is coming up and this will be the first that Adam and I will actually get to celebrate on the actual day. We'll see what happens!
